EHUFSD Annual Budget Vote & Election Voter Registration Information

Eligibility

To be eligible to vote at the EHUFSD you must be registered. In order to register an individual must be:

  1. A U.S. citizen,
  2. At least 18 years of age,
  3. Be a resident of the East Hampton Union Free School District for a period of 30 days prior to the Annual Budget Vote and Election or Special School Board Meeting in which an individual offers to vote, and
  4. Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

 

PERSONAL REGISTRATION OF VOTERS

Personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law. If a voter has previously been registered and has voted at any Annual or Special District Meeting within the past four (4) years, such voter is eligible to vote at this election. All other persons who wish to vote must register. Registration shall be conducted on Monday, April 19, 2021 and Tuesday, May 11, 2021 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., at the Office of the District Clerk located at the District Office, 4 Long Lane, East Hampton, New York, at which time any person will be entitled to have his or her name placed on such register, provided that he or she is known, or proven to the satisfaction of the Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at such Annual District Meeting for which the register is prepared. The register so prepared pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law will be filed in the Office of the District Clerk, and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District, each day prior to the date set for the Annual School District Election and Budget Vote, except Sunday or a holiday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., commencing on Thursday, May 13, 2021, and on Saturday, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and on the day of the Election and Budget Vote. The Board of Registration will also meet during the Election and Budget Vote to prepare the Register of the School District to be used for any meetings or elections subsequently held.

 

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Applications for absentee ballots for election of school board members and for voting on the school budget are to be completed on a form prescribed by the State Board of Elections and may be obtained by visiting the New York State Education Department’s Website (in English or Spanish) or by contacting the District Clerk by email at kerri.stevens@ehschools.org or by telephone at 631-329-4104. Completed applications must be received at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the applicant, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the applicant or to his or her designated agent. Absentee ballot applications will not be accepted by the District Clerk before April 19, 2021.

MILITARY VOTERS

Pursuant to Education Law §2018-d, any person serving in the military, including spouses and dependents, may register to vote in the upcoming school district election. A military voter who is a qualified voter of the school district may obtain a registration form by contacting the District Clerk by phone (631-329-4104), facsimile (631-324-0109), email (kerri.stevens@ehschools.org), mail (Kerri S. Stevens, District Clerk, East Hampton Union Free School District, 4 Long Lane, East Hampton, NY 11937), or in person (during regular office hours or between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.). A military voter who is duly registered may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application form from the District Clerk. Completed applications must be personally delivered or mailed to the District Clerk and received no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 22, 2021. Completed military ballots must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 18, 2021 if signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto with a date which is not later than the day before the election, or not later than the close of the polls on May 18, 2021 if postmarked or endorsed by an agency of the United States government. A military voter may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration form, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile or electronic mail in the request for such registration, ballot application, or ballot.

 

VOTING

The 2021 Annual School Board Budget Vote and Election will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the East Hampton Union Free School District, 4 Long Lane, East Hampton, NY, in the High School Cafeteria.

 

ELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS

Two (2) members of the EHUFSD Board of Education will be elected for two (2) terms of three (3) years commencing July 1, 2021 and expiring on June 30, 2024, and One (1) member of the EHUFSD Board of Education will be elected for one (1) term of one (1) year and 43 days commencing May 19, 2021 and expiring June 30, 2022.
