East Hampton Union Free School District strives to maintain and improve a unified, comprehensive, quality educational program. Transportation plays a vital role in that endeavor. The Transportation Office strives to comply with the letter and spirit of the New York State Education Laws, Motor Vehicle Laws and the Commissioner of Education’s regulations and decisions pertinent to the safe transportation of students.
Eligible school age students will be picked up and dropped off by a school bus at a scheduled stop designated by the Transportation Office. Transportation eligibility requires a student live one and a half (1-1/2) miles from East Hampton High School or Middle School. All John Marshall Elementary School students are eligible for transportation.
This includes students attending private or parochial school living within a 15-mile limit, measured from the individual’s home to the school. Parents enrolling children in private or parochial schools who would like transportation, must submit a transportation application in writing to the Transportation Office no later than April 1st of each year for the following school year.
The Director of Transportation has the overall responsibility to supervise the transportation program. Steps are constantly being taken to secure and assure the highest standards of safe school bus transportation of all students and, in every practical way, maintain decorum and efficiency throughout the year.
Failure of students to follow transportation rules and regulations may result in short-term or prolonged loss of transportation services. Information on rules and regulations are distributed to students at the beginning of each school year. Any irregularities or questions related to transportation should be called to the attention of the Transportation Office at 329-4212.
|All requests for bus transportation from parochial, charter, and private school students for the 2014-2015 school year should be submitted by the April 1, 2015 DEADLINE to: East Hampton School District, Attention: Transportation Department, 41 Route 114, East Hampton, NY 11937. Telephone number 329-4212.
In the Event of a Bus Accident
Students who are seriously ill or injured will be transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital accompanied by an official of the school district or your child’s bus company. Parents will be notified and directed to the correct hospital by an official.
Should an accident involve no apparent student injuries while the bus is en route to school, students will be transported to school as quickly as possible and directed immediately to the nurse’s office for examination. The school nurse will attempt to contact the parents. If the bus is transporting children home, parents will be notified of the accident and advised of the approximate time that their child will arrive home.
